Big Sugar Bakeshop

May 25th, 2010 — 12:49pm

I know that I’ve been blogging a lot lately about places around my new home and furnishing and designing it, but there are many things I will miss about living in Studio City (though I’m not really that far from it still).

One place is definitely Big Sugar Bakeshop on Ventura Blvd. I believe I even blogged about them before last year. They taste a lot better than Sprinkles and have a great variety. Their store is filled with adorable retail, everything from kiddie aprons and cookbooks to cards and ceramics. I’ve found some of the best birthday/holiday cards here. I believe even the retro kitchen tables and chairs you sit at inside are for sale as well.

Unique cozy, rustic light interior

I was walking around Ventura, killing time, and decided to drop in Big Sugar. Lo and behold, I saw that they were selling Dharma cupcakes. (By the way, this was Sunday – the LOST finale day!)

Of course I rushed right in. I saw a few Dharma cupcakes left, and ordered more to make 10 cupcakes to take with me to that night’s Lost party.

One Dharma cupcake left (top shelf, middle). Many Lakers cupcakes for that night's game were made as well.

Hurray!

Delicious vanilla cupcakes ... with a touch of Dharma :)

10 freshly-made cupcakes, good to go and be enjoyed by … Lostians?

I’ll definitely keep coming back to Big Sugar. They have a great staff as well. I think they do events here every now and then. Come by sometime, get a drink and a cupcake and chill in a 70s kitchen chair and enjoy the day.

Thinking Aloud

October 21st, 2009 — 3:50am

It has been a long while since Ive doodled/sketched/painted.

Today I took Andys route home (from Orange County to Studio City). Instead of the 73N405N101S (~1.5-2hrs.), I took 73N405N605N91W710NValley Rd.S. Fremont Rd.134W. Yes, it was faster. But I shall try to alter it to find a way to not end up in Pasadena.

Oh, traffic. Today I took Andy's route home (from Orange County to Studio City). Instead of the 73N>405N>101S (~1.5-2hrs.), I took 73N>405N>605N>91W>710N>Valley Rd.>S. Fremont Rd.>134W (~1 hour, 10 min.). Yes, it was faster. But I shall try to alter it to find a way to not end up in Pasadena.

The Counter, Studio City

August 2nd, 2009 — 2:53am

I have lived in this area for a little over a year. Studio City is not a big town. But I have never ever noticed this burger place before. It’s a sit-down burger joint (with the usual fries and shakes as well), but you choose what you want, everything from the meat and toppings to the sauce and cheese. You write everything down on a sheet, checking boxes next to the things you want. I got a veggie burger in a bowl.

Conclusion: Choices are many, crowd is great, food is tasty. But it’s a bit pricy for a burger ($10 for my veggie “burger” in a bowl), so with splitting up our drinks and two sides, my total came out to be $18-$19. It’s a bit much for a burger you wouldn’t consider “fine dining” or “gourmet”. But it was a generous portion and the place has a classic vintage look and feel.
