Kim Sun Young: They Work Miracles
When I was little, my hair started growing much thicker and wavier, I couldn’t really do anything about it. It would be too thick to keep in a ponytail, I’d break all my hair-ties (still do), and would just be too hard to control. Then in jr. high, my mom took me to Kim Sun Young in LA, where I got my first magic straight perm. It took 6 hours, but the results were unbelievable. I feel like the straight perm is medicine for my diseased hair.
So since then, I’ve been going there once a year. Depending on the length and place you go to, a straight perm can cost around $150-$300. Yesterday, I went for my annual perm (a bit overdue, the one before was a year and a half ago). I’d say it was a great success, considering that every straight perm has been different. It turned out way better than I expected, my stylist, Kimberly, was friendly and very helpful, and the people that were around that day were just overall fun. Plus, no tears!
The process involves a lot of different steps, and the parts I hate the most is when they have to use a straight iron. It takes forever (they do very small parts at a time), it’s hot, and the iron can get too close to your scalp and ears. And with long hair, it can really put a strain on your head that you’d be feeling for a couple days. But I’m happy to say that this wasn’t as painful, and there were no tears.
So! Below is me, photos I took the night before I went and got the perm.

And here is me, the after-picture!
