Talk About A Sidecar!

June 29th, 2009 — 8:06am

It’s more than just a conceptual design: this thing is BUILT!

A Laverda motorcycle with a supercar sidecar!

Perhaps the rickshaw of the 21st century? Modern taxi? As for the sidecar, easy in, easy out. The bike, easy on, easy off. Perfect cruiser for a ride on the PCH.

I'm Not Crazy Afterall

June 29th, 2009 — 7:23am

Ha! It’s true when they say you are never alone in this world, especially when I find an entire online group of people that also wish they had a pet elephant!

Elefante

June 29th, 2009 — 12:58am

Elephants are probably my favorite animal, I just realized, after looking back and realizing that some of my favorite possessions were Elephant-related.

I wish I had a mini Elephant as a pet.

News to Me

June 29th, 2009 — 12:03am

Everyone that knows me know that I am clueless when it comes to the Korean pop scene. But from friends that have listened to K-Pop, I am familiar with Boa from over the years.

So maybe I’m the last one to know, but when did BOA come to the US and become part of the Universal Music Group?!

Although I’m not one to like something just because it’s Korean, I do think it’s fantastic that K-Pop is still huge in Asia and is making its way to the US. I have no idea really what is going on in the K-Pop scene, but I know it must be freakin’ challenging to have a Korean girl become the next US pop hit, so congrats to BOA (is it “BoA” now? or is that just my bank of choice?).

Check out a video of hers, “Eat You Up”, here on YouTube!

Absolutely Beautiful Synth

June 28th, 2009 — 11:27pm

This Steampunk modular synthesizer is absolutely beautiful and stunning. Words that come to mind right away are vintage, theatre, radio, skill, detailed, time-consuming (many parts done by hand), piece of art, European, plays, script, and … “knobular”.

The Notebook Grill

June 28th, 2009 — 7:51pm

Last night I got a chance to try out the notebook grill! It’s a small-scale grill that you can collapse and carry easily with a handle. The grill is an A+R exclusive item. Thanks to my sister for a birthday gift card, the day I decided to use it, I found what I wanted right away.

I first saw this grill online (there is a new stainless steel version out now, I just noticed: http://aplusrstore.com/product_detail.php?show=product&pid=397) and was immediately attracted to its sleek and simple design and portability.

I drove to Fashion Island in Newport Beach after work one day. As soon as I got out of the car, I saw “Design Within Reach”, and thought I could find something cool there to buy. Headed straight for it, looked in the window and right away noticed the notebook grill that I had seen online couple months earlier. Walked right in, said I wanted to buy the little grill in the window, and they said, “Fantastic! We have only one left.”

We had about 13-15 people last night in our backyard for a bbq. We were able to use this notebook grill and another grill we already had. The notebook grill was great for cooking our hotdogs. The only things to worry about is not having a lid to cover the grill, but I think getting a large pot lid to place over the food in the future would work fine. It uses coals, which is nice to not have to buy propane or have greasy leaks. It’s definitely easy to clean and carry, so I recommend it for the beach, park, or road trips.

I’ll be sure to post pictures from last night’s bbq soon!

South Korean Police Cars

A porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari as police cars? Just makes sense, at least in South Korea:

The Granada

June 23rd, 2009 — 9:47pm

My sister and I were walking in downtown San Luis Obispo when she noticed a cute purple building that we haven’t seen before. It’s the Granada, apparently just a couple months old. It’s a mediterranean restaurant with apparently good wine, we hear, and what looks like a nice relaxed crowd of customers.

The purple walls, the open window, the rustic awning, and the word, “Bistro”, are enough to make anyone wander in.

Protestors Line Both Sides of a Street in Los Angeles

June 20th, 2009 — 6:22am

LA-based supporters of Iran’s election protest have made their voices heard this week by standing on Wilshire with Iranian flags, numerous signs, and chanting lines of protest and hope. Cars were honking, flags were held high as cars passed by underneath. With not much time for thought, I couldn’t help but smile and take in these sights and sounds.

Saw Dan Today

June 18th, 2009 — 7:00am

One of the things Dan and I talked about tonight was alternatives to gas vehicles.

Googling unique methods of transportation, I came across this picture:

In the caption for the above photo, these people were just one of several coming up with different methods of transportation 100 years ago. This blog (post titled “Save On Gas”) where I found the photo reminded me of all the crazy transports we have in the office: electric scooters, electric skateboard, bikes and bikes and bikes, longboards, skateboards, and surfboards. Oh yeah, and an inflatable boat with motor. We had a golf cart as well, but that may be gone. Only in beach towns like Newport will you need so many ways to cruise about the streets.
