Mutemath and the King Drummer

February 17th, 2010 — 6:21pm

Oh, beautiful Mutemath, why have you been so far from me?

Mutemath has been touring in Japan. The closest they will come to me is Coachella, which you won’t find me at this year.

I heard that their song (my favorite), “Reset”, was played during the Olympics. I am frustrated and let down by the young YouTube DVR-ing bootleggers who have not uploaded this clip to the world wide web.

I’ve only seen this band twice. No, I don’t find that number anywhere close to enough. I feel like I am in some kind of strange Mutemath crave, really wanting to see them again live. I love their decades style of clothing, use of incandescent bulbs on stage, vintage instruments, the muted color lights piercing through the smoky air, and everything and everyone reacting to the beats of the energy performed by these musicians.

Below, the first video is of their drummer, drumming at 175 beats per minute. And yes, naturally I would pick a video featuring the beautiful Darren King and his duct-taped head. The beat reminds of their song, “Control”.

The second video is another one with Darren King, whose drumset is hooked to different lights that each illuminate to a specific part of the drumset. Shot by the wonderful Brandon Goodwin, it’s a fun experiment to watch.

Would LOVE to see them upload a performace of “Reset” with the Japanese crowd! I’m sure they will… they’re just teasing us with the wait. Be sure to check out their YouTube page. Their live music videos in Japan are worth the watch!

These Are My Favorite Things

December 18th, 2009 — 2:49am

I had to stay up late tonight (not like I ever go to bed early) to see Boyz II Men on Jimmy Fallon. Boyz II Men? The Roots? Christmas? Yeah!

I haven’t been up to date with Boyz II Men in ages, and was hoping they’d do a Christmas song. Instead they did a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Don’t Want the World to See Me”. I was unaware that they were doing covers of older popular songs, and I came across one they did on the CBS morning show of “Amazed”, a song that I was obsessed with in jr. high!

I also just found out that all four, including Michael, of the R&B group will be reuniting with Mariah Carey in 2011! You can count on me being there!!! I remember a friend of mine going to a Mariah Carey concert here in LA and Boyz II Men surprised the audience for “One Sweet Day”. I am NOT going to miss that again.

Anyways, for the season, here is Boyz II Men singing “Silent Night” on an episode of Fresh Prince that I love watching during this season:

Faux Fire, now an app on the iPhone!

photo-5

Okay, so I sound like spam, I’m sure. But I’ve been watching this in the making and patiently waiting for this to come to the iPhone. Who doesn’t love a good warm fire with Christmas music and the sound of fire crackling? You may not have a fireplace, but that shouldn’t stop you!

Enjoy the iPhone app, the FauxFire.com website, screensaver, and soon to come, the DVD! Contributions from sale profits will go to Salvation Army. Go to FauxFire.com for all the info

Thanks, Ryan, for your wonderful techy skills and bringing a warm digi-fire to all!

Faux Fire

November 11th, 2009 — 12:01pm

Just because you don’t have a fireplace in your apartment doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good fire this holiday season.

Just visit FauxFire.com, turn up the background Christmas music, and relax to the soothing sounds of Bing, Dean, Sinatra, King Cole, and others :) .

(p.s.: there’s even crackle sounds of the warm fire to go with your music!)

FedEx: Home Collection

October 30th, 2009 — 10:16pm

When was the last time you thought, “I feel like sleeping on that FedEx pillow right now”?

Nice and fluffy … looking. Andrew Austin, one of the people who created this set for One Block Radius’s music video, shared this photo.

500 Days of Summer

August 17th, 2009 — 8:16am

Just came home from the Sherman Oaks ArcLight, watching 500 Days of Summer. I was so looking forward to it, and it was still better than I expected.

Anyways, if you’ve seen the film and liked it, you’ll enjoy this:
